TransNamib Holdings Limited has issued an Invitation for Expression of Interest for the leasing of diesel-electric locomotives to support freight operations across Namibia’s railway network.
TransNamib intends to secure additional diesel-electric locomotives to augment tractive effort for freight operations across its network. The locomotives are expected to support the haulage of commodities including fuel, mining products and construction materials on approved rail corridors nationwide.
The proposed lease period is a minimum of 24 months, with a possible extension subject to operational requirements.
The locomotives will be operated by certified TransNamib train drivers. However, operator training may be required where locomotive models differ from the operator’s existing fleet, specifically the Wabtec U20C or C23EMP.
