TransNamib has said it held a series of engagements on its locomotive procurement strategy with a delegation from the Development Bank of Southern Africa (DBSA), the Development Bank of Namibia (DBN), its own executive committee and board of directors, the Central Procurement Board of Namibia and the minister responsible for works and transport.
According to TransNamib, the discussions covered funding requirements, procurement processes, implementation timelines and the key steps needed to move the process forward.
TransNamib described the work as part of its locomotive renewal programme, carried out with its financing partners, procurement stakeholders and the Government of Namibia, with the aim of finding a sustainable and timely way forward. The company said it is working towards strengthening its fleet and improving locomotive availability, and that a stronger locomotive fleet means greater capacity, improved reliability and new opportunities for rail freight in Namibia.
