The Single Logistics Window brings air, maritime, road and rail freight onto one tracking platform, developed by the Ministry of Transport with the finance, trade and interior ministries. Rail freight movements will be tracked on the same platform as the other three modes.
The next step is completion of the project and the platform's entry into operation.
Angola is finalising the development of a Single Logistics Window, or Janela Única Logística, intended to provide monitoring and traceability across the country’s rail, road, maritime and aviation logistics systems.
Transport Minister Ricardo de Abreu announced the initiative on 28 September during the opening of the second Angola Hub Transport and Logistics Summit in Luanda.
According to the Angolan Government, work on the Single Logistics Window project is being concluded in partnership with the Ministry of Finance, through the General Tax Administration, as well as the Ministry of Industry and Commerce and the Ministry of the Interior.
The platform is intended to strengthen digitalisation and coordination between the institutions involved in Angola’s logistics chain.
De Abreu said the use of management technologies, information sharing between operators and authorities, and the modernisation of administrative procedures were important to the development of the country’s transport systems.
The initiative forms part of Angola’s efforts to improve the efficiency of its logistics systems as existing infrastructure is upgraded and further investment is undertaken.
De Abreu also called for reductions in commercial and regulatory barriers and greater integration between national systems, arguing that the competitiveness of Angola’s transport corridors depends on an integrated approach involving participants throughout the logistics chain.
The system will cover rail alongside road, maritime and aviation transport, providing a common platform through which activity across the national logistics chain can be monitored and traced.
The Minister also identified skills development as an important component of Angola’s transport modernisation programme, particularly the need to develop personnel capable of operating, managing and maintaining new infrastructure and technology systems.
He said artificial intelligence could also contribute to faster processes and more efficient use of resources in the transport sector.
