
President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi met with Robert Mærsk Uggla, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the A.P. Møller-Mærsk Group. The meeting was attended by Prime Minister Dr. Moustafa Madbouly, Chairman of the Suez Canal Authority Admiral Ossama Rabiee, and A.P. Møller-Mærsk’s Chief Group Representative in the Middle East and North Africa, Hany El Nady.
According to Presidential Spokesman Ambassador Mohamed El-Shennawy, President El-Sisi emphasised the strategic partnership between Egypt, represented by the Suez Canal Authority, and the Mærsk Group. He commended the Group’s efforts in studying the production and supply of ships with green fuel, which strengthens Egypt’s role as a regional hub for container trade and green fuel production. The President also expressed appreciation for Mærsk’s contribution to the ongoing expansion of the Suez Canal Container Terminal in East Port Said Port.
Robert Mærsk Uggla thanked President El-Sisi for Egypt’s role in reaching an agreement to stop the war in Gaza and for hosting the Sharm El-Sheikh peace summit, noting that these efforts would positively impact regional stability and shipping traffic in the Red Sea. He reaffirmed Mærsk’s commitment to cooperation with the Suez Canal Authority, highlighting the canal’s global importance to supply chains as a more efficient and cost-effective route. He also praised the canal’s advanced services and expressed the Group’s readiness to support Egypt’s efforts to reconstruct Gaza, citing East Port Said Port’s potential role.
The Mærsk Chairman reiterated the Group’s confidence in Egypt’s economic stability, noting that the scope of its investments reflects continued trust in the Egyptian market. He also praised the Suez Canal Authority’s advancements in infrastructure and technical capabilities, positioning Egypt as a leading regional hub for green fuel supply.
Discussions also covered strengthening cooperation between the Suez Canal Authority and Mærsk in training, knowledge exchange, maritime transport, logistics, container handling, and maritime services. President El-Sisi reaffirmed Egypt’s commitment to maintaining a favourable investment climate and addressing any challenges the Group might encounter, expressing the state’s aspiration to expand Mærsk’s investments and operations in Egypt.
Admiral Ossama Rabiee commended the productive cooperation between the Suez Canal Authority and Mærsk, emphasising the Authority’s eagerness to deepen the partnership through new joint projects aimed at bolstering the national economy and reinforcing Egypt’s position as a global centre for maritime and logistics services.
