On 17 February, Mozambique’s Council of Ministers approved a resolution establishing a Coordination Office for the North-South Railway Line Project.
The office will serve as a technical structure responsible for leading the implementation of the proposed corridor, aimed at ensuring continuous rail connectivity across the country and strengthening territorial integration.
Its mandate includes coordinating technical, economic and financial feasibility studies, mobilising funding, overseeing public procurement processes, and managing environmental and social impact assessments. It will also provide technical advice to government and ensure compliance with national legal, environmental and social standards.
The North-South Railway Line is positioned as a strategic infrastructure project intended to connect key agricultural, industrial, mining and tourism centres, while supporting economic development, national cohesion and regional integration.
