Mozambique commemorated the 130th anniversary of Caminhos de Ferro de Moçambique (CFM) on 8 July 2025, marking over a century of rail-driven national development. The event underscored the railway’s role in connecting regions, supporting economic growth, and facilitating regional integration. It also marked the anniversary of the first rail link between Lourenço Marques (now Maputo) and the Transvaal (now Pretoria), inaugurated in 1895. The CFM network remains central to territorial cohesion, infrastructure development, and cross-border trade.
