Train Derailment Claims Driver's Life in the North West

A Transnet freight train, traveling from Kimberly in the Northern Cape to Mafikeng in the North West Province, derailed near the Madibogo station late last month. The derailment has been attributed to heavy rains in the area, which washed away portions of the track. Two locomotives derailed as a result, killing the driver on impact.

United National Transport Union General Secretary, Steve Harris, identified the deceased driver as Neo Oageng in a press statement following the incident. Railways AfricaTM Magazine extends our heartfelt condolences to his family and colleagues.
