Minrail Solutions Marks Freight Rail Milestone with Ore Corridor Access Agreement

Minrail Solutions welcomes the conclusion of a signed rail access agreement, marking an important milestone in the continued opening and revitalisation of South Africa’s freight rail sector.

The agreement enables the company to commence preparations for private freight rail operations on the national rail network as a new entrant train operating company. This development reflects growing momentum towards increased private sector participation, improved network utilisation, and enhanced logistics capacity across the country.

The agreement represents more than operational access; it is a practical step towards restoring rail as a strategic enabler of economic growth, industrial competitiveness, and regional trade.

Minrail has been awarded a meaningful allocation on the Ore Corridor, becoming the first private operator to be granted access to operate a full heavy-haul train on the line. The company possesses in-house technical, engineering and operational capability to boldly accept this opportunity and make it happen. Allied to this, a new rail siding will be built near Postmasburg in the Northern Cape and is expected to become the epicentre for new iron ore volumes.

Minrail Solutions recognises the constructive engagement undertaken by all parties involved in reaching this outcome. This milestone provides a foundation for long-term investment, operational efficiency, and reliable freight solutions that support the South African industry.

The company remains committed to building safe, efficient, and commercially sustainable rail operations aligned with national infrastructure objectives and the future growth of the Ore Corridor.
