Kenya Railways Official Acceptance Of The Completed Works Phase 2A SGR Project

This week the Board of Kenya Railways (KR), representatives of KR management, the Phase 2A SGR EPC Contractor, and the Consultant; conducted inspection for Official Acceptance of the completed works.

Construction of the 120 km long Phase 2A SGR Project connecting Nairobi to Naivasha, was launched on September 14, 2017.

The line has a 6.2 km bridge over passing the Nairobi National Park; four intermediate stations at Ongata Rongai, Ngong, Maai Mahiu and Suswa, as well as a passing station at Nachu. The line has three tunnels at Ngong, Nachu and Kimuka with a combined length of 6.6 km.

The works were substantially completed on September 30, 2019, at which point the Taking-Over Certificate was issued, and the line put into operations.

The Project immediately entered into 12 months Defects Notification Period (DNP), which lapsed on September 30, 2020.

Inspections for Official Acceptance kicked off on September 30, 2020, by various construction disciplines, and concluded on October 8, 2020 with the signing of Performance Certificate for the Project, at Suswa SGR Station.
