The Joint Ministerial Committee of the Kazungula Bridge Project met on 18 September 2025 to deliberate on the finalisation of the operationalisation of the Kazungula Bridge Authority (KBA).

Co-chaired by Botswana’s Minister of Transport and Infrastructure, Honourable Noah S.L.M. Salakae, and Zambia’s Minister of Infrastructure, Housing and Urban Development, Honourable Eng. Charles Lubasi Milupi, the meeting brought together senior officials from both countries.

The Committee welcomed the appointment of the KBA Board Members and encouraged a seamless transition of responsibilities to the new Board. It noted the work of the Kazungula Bridge Project Office, which will wind up operations within six months, and welcomed progress on the Host Agreement to be signed during the Authority’s launch.

The Ministries of Transport and Infrastructure (Botswana) and Infrastructure, Housing and Urban Development (Zambia) were urged to begin preparations for the commissioning of the KBA, scheduled for 15 October 2025. The Joint Technical Committee, Joint Steering Committee and Joint Ministerial Committee were dissolved to make way for the new Council of Ministers, KBA Board and management team.

The Ministers reaffirmed their joint commitment to the sustainability of the Kazungula Bridge as a symbol of regional integration, cooperation and economic development, and acknowledged the strong bilateral relations between the two countries.
