On Thursday, 13 August, in Luanda, the public opening and verification of bids submitted under the tender for the concession to operate, manage and maintain the Namibe Corridor took place.
Of the three bids submitted, Copia Group of Companies was accepted for evaluation, while the consortium comprising Africa Finance Corporation and African Rail International was conditionally accepted. The bid submitted by the consortium comprising ATG Afri-Track Group, Global Business Development and VFF was not accepted due to insufficient documentation.
The Evaluation Committee will now proceed with the analysis and assessment of the bids in accordance with the tender requirements.
Extending for approximately 855 kilometres, the Namibe Corridor incorporates the Moçâmedes Railway and the Port of Namibe and serves as an important logistics corridor for the movement of minerals, ornamental stone, agricultural products and other goods. It has a transport capacity of up to 5 million tonnes per year.
The project provides for an initial 30-year concession, which may be extended to up to 50 years. It also provides for the potential construction of new railway connections to Namibia and, at a later stage, Zambia, strengthening regional integration and the development of Angola’s logistics infrastructure.
