Senegal is targeting September 2026 for the start of commercial service on Phase 2 of the Train Express Régional (TER), linking Diamniadio with Blaise Diagne International Airport (AIBD), as technical testing and operational preparations continue.
The latest position was confirmed following a project review chaired by Minister of Land and Air Transport Serigne Abdoul Ahad Ndiaye, involving the Ministry, SENTER and APIX. The meeting reviewed project progress, technical testing already undertaken, preparatory operations and priority actions still to be completed ahead of commercial service.
Testing on the Phase 2 section has reached 160 km/h, which the Ministry said clears the way for the next phases of operational validation. APIX had previously announced technical performance tests on the Diamniadio–AIBD section, via Sébikotane, between 27 and 30 July.
The remaining actions are being coordinated between the parties with the objective of launching Phase 2 during September, subject to completion of the required validation processes and conditions relating to safety, reliability and service quality.
Phase 2 extends the existing TER beyond Diamniadio to AIBD and represents the next operational stage of Senegal’s Dakar-area commuter rail network.
In June, Railways Africa reported further progress on the extension with the launch of works for the future Sébikotane station.
With testing having reached 160 km/h, attention now shifts to the next phases of operational validation and the outstanding actions required before the Diamniadio–AIBD section can enter commercial service.
