The President of Senegal has reaffirmed that railway development and rail transport remain a national priority, positioning the sector as central to the country’s economic growth and international attractiveness.
He instructed the Minister of Land and Air Transport to conduct a comprehensive assessment of ongoing railway projects and sector reforms. Particular emphasis was placed on accelerating the rehabilitation and modernisation of the Dakar–Tambacounda line, finalising the National Railway Policy 2050 framework, and undertaking a thorough review of social dialogue mechanisms and outstanding grievances of railway personnel.
In addition, the Head of State directed the Minister, in coordination with APIX and relevant stakeholders, to ensure the commissioning of Phase II of the Regional Express Train project, including completion of the Sébikhotane station. The Prime Minister has been mandated to convene an inter-ministerial council dedicated to the railway sector and to oversee the effective implementation of resettlement plans for communities affected by the TER project.
