The airport section completes the TER as planned for its second phase and gives Dakar a direct rail link to its international airport. Blaise Diagne International Airport sits well outside the city, and a rail connection could shift a share of airport traffic off the congested road corridor through Diamniadio.
The timing ahead of the Youth Olympic Games gives the extension an early test of capacity and reliability. Its longer-term value will depend on frequency, fares and how far the airport link draws regular commuters and airport workers as well as air passengers.

Senegal’s Ministry of Infrastructure and Land and Air Transport (MITTA) has opened the Diamniadio to Blaise Diagne International Airport (AIBD) section of Dakar’s Train Express Régional (TER) to commercial service from Monday 28 September 2026, completing the second phase of the line and giving the capital a direct rail link to its international airport.
The new section is about 19km long and extends the TER beyond Diamniadio, which had been the terminus of the first phase. The ministry said the extension would give air passengers, people working at the airport and visitors to Senegal a fast and regular connection, and would improve access to the Diamniadio urban hub.
The opening comes ahead of the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games (JOJ Dakar 2026). The ministry expects the TER to form part of the transport arrangements for delegations, spectators and visitors during the Games.
In announcing the opening, the ministry credited APIX, the delegated project owner, together with Senter S.A. and the TER operator SETER.
