GPT Concrete Products South Africa (Pty) Limited has received a R660 million contract, excluding VAT, from Transnet Freight Rail for the manufacture and supply of concrete railway sleepers. The five-year contract will be fulfilled from the company’s factory in Ladysmith, KwaZulu-Natal.
Parent company GPT Infraprojects Limited disclosed the award to the National Stock Exchange of India and BSE on 1 October 2026. It named Transnet Freight Rail as the awarding entity and gave the contract value as ZAR 660 million plus VAT, approximately Rs 385 crore plus VAT.
GPT’s sleeper business manufactures and supplies concrete sleepers for railways in India and Africa. Alongside Ladysmith, the group lists African manufacturing units at Tsumeb in Namibia and Eshiem in Ghana, as well as Panagarh in West Bengal, India.
GPT Infraprojects has not disclosed sleeper quantities, technical specifications, a start date or a delivery schedule.
