ANTT Delivers New Maintenance Workshop for Moçâmedes Railway in Lubango

This is a maintenance-capacity investment rather than a service expansion, rolling-stock order or upgrade to the line itself: the new workshop is intended to support the existing DMU fleet already operating on the Moçâmedes Railway, and no new vehicles, routes or timetable changes were announced alongside the handover.

For a provincial network whose maintenance and operational reliability are directly tied to fleet availability, a purpose-built, fully equipped DMU workshop is a concrete signal that CFM and ANTT are prioritising in-country maintenance capability for now. That is relevant context for suppliers of maintenance equipment and rolling-stock components tracking how Angola’s provincial railway operators are investing in existing assets.

  • ANTT handed over new DMU maintenance workshops for the Moçâmedes Railway (CFM) in Lubango, Huíla province, on 10 August 2026.
  • The handover ceremony was presided over by ANTT Chairman Énio Costa.
  • CFM’s Technical Administrator, José Gaspar Kamunda, said the facility would improve fleet management and the quality, regularity and safety of rail services in the region.
  • The workshop is intended to strengthen CFM’s technical and operational capacity for maintaining its Diesel Multiple Unit fleet.

Angola’s National Land Transport Agency (ANTT) has handed over new maintenance workshops for the Diesel Multiple Units (DMUs) of the Moçâmedes Railway (Caminhos de Ferro de Moçâmedes, E.P., CFM) in Lubango, Huíla province.

The facility is intended to strengthen CFM’s technical and operational capacity for maintaining its rolling stock, with ANTT describing the infrastructure as modern and fully equipped.

ANTT’s Chairman, Énio Costa, presided over the handover ceremony on 10 August 2026, describing it as a further step in the modernisation of Angola’s national railway system. He said the new facilities are equipped with advanced technological resources intended to raise maintenance standards and improve the operational reliability of CFM’s fleet.

CFM’s Technical Administrator, José Gaspar Kamunda, said the new workshop reflects the institutions’ commitment to the continuous improvement of services provided to users. He added that the investment represents a gain for railway operations, providing safer and more efficient conditions for fleet management, with a direct impact on the quality, regularity and safety of rail transport in the region.
