Mr Ousmane Gaoual Diallo, Minister of Transport and Government Spokesperson, received the Ambassador of the United Kingdom to the Republic of Guinea, His Excellency Daniel Shepherd, accompanied by Mr Steven Gray OBE, representative of UK Export Finance, on Friday, 16 January 2026.

This meeting formed part of ongoing efforts to strengthen cooperation between Guinea and the United Kingdom, particularly in the transport sector. Discussions focused primarily on funding prospects, with a target completion date of 2026, for an ambitious tramway project in Conakry. The project is intended to improve urban mobility, reduce traffic congestion and provide the population with a modern, reliable and sustainable mode of transport.

Beyond this flagship project, the discussions also covered other key segments of the transport sector, including maritime transport, urban and intercity transport, as well as the development and modernisation of airport infrastructure in Guinea. These areas are recognised as essential drivers for supporting economic growth, strengthening national and regional connectivity, and improving the quality of services offered to users.

At the conclusion of the meeting, both parties welcomed the alignment of views on sector priorities and reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening technical and financial cooperation, in line with the Guinean Government’s strategic guidelines for the development of transport infrastructure.
