AfDB Expresses Willingness to Fund Feasibility Studies for Guinea Tramway Project

The AfDB's stated willingness to fund feasibility studies would give Guinea's tramway project a development finance partner at the study stage.

If the Bank's support for feasibility studies is taken up, the project could gain the technical groundwork that precedes any financing decision, with the AfDB involved from the outset.

The African Development Bank (AfDB) has expressed its willingness to fund feasibility studies for Guinea's tramway project, following talks with the country's Minister of Transport, Ousmane Gaoual Diallo, according to the latest post from Guinea's Ministry of Transport.

The minister received an AfDB delegation led by Mike Salawou, Director of the Bank's Infrastructure and Urban Development Department, on 1 October 2026.

Discussions covered several structural projects for the transport sector, including urban, rail, maritime and port projects, logistics and airport infrastructure. The AfDB reaffirmed its willingness to support Guinea in implementing its priority projects, and the tramway project received particular attention.

The delegation also presented potential opportunities for support in airport infrastructure, according to the ministry.
