TAZARA Postpones Resumption of Mukuba Cross-Border Passenger Train Service

The Tanzania-Zambia Railway Authority (TAZARA) has postponed the resumption of its Mukuba Cross-Border Passenger Train service following a further railway accident on the Nakonde–Mwenzo section.

The service had been scheduled to resume normal operations from New Kapiri Mposhi to Dar es Salaam on Tuesday, 30 June 2026, after the reopening of the railway line at Km 883, which had been temporarily closed for repairs following an accident on 11 June 2026.

However, TAZARA has now advised customers and the general public that the Mukuba Border Passenger Train service will instead resume on Tuesday, 7 July 2026.

According to the Authority, the postponement follows a railway accident that occurred on 28 June 2026 at Km 980+200 on the Nakonde–Mwenzo section of the line. Additional time is required to complete maintenance on the affected railway infrastructure and to ensure that passenger safety and train operations meet the required standards.

TAZARA apologised for the inconvenience caused and thanked customers and passengers for their patience, understanding and cooperation during the disruption.

The Authority said it continues to work to provide safe, reliable and cost-effective rail transport services.
