Southern African Transport Conference 2019 Draws Big Names In Transport

Several high-profile delegates will attend the 38th annual Southern African Transport Conference (SATC) this year, which will be held at the CSIR in Pretoria from 8 to 11 July.

Among others, they include SATC patron and newly appointed Minister of Transport, Mr Fikile Mbalula; Mr Makhukhu Mampuru, HOD in the Gauteng Provincial Government; Dr Chris Hlabisa, acting Director General at the Department of Transport; Ismail Vadi, former Gauteng MEC for Roads and Transport and Mr Jacob Mamabolo, the current MEC of Roads and Transport in Gauteng.

The opening session of SATC 2019 (Monday, 8 July), which includes a highly anticipated key note address by the new Minister of Transport, will be live streamed from 08h30. The conference will then split into four parallel sessions that deal with transport infrastructure, Treasury session, Capacity Building and Transport for Rural Development and Rail.

In addition, there will be a not to be missed plenary session by local and international experts in road construction, transport engineering, autonomous vehicles and the maritime industry from day 1 to day 3 of the conference.

Co-sponsored with the Transport Research Board and endorsed by the Department of Transport and the International Road Federation, SATC has become the region’s premier transport conference and exhibition over the years. SATC 2019 will once again play host to internationally-lauded plenary speakers and will welcome over 700 transport professionals, academics, students and engineers.

Apart from the presentation of research papers, SATC also serves as a forum to debate current transport-related issues at national, provincial and municipal levels. Furthermore, the conference is SAICE and SACPLAN accredited.

Day one of the four-day event will conclude with a cocktail function and prize giving ceremony where the authors of the best research papers in several categories will be recognised for their contributions.

Under the theme “Disruptive Transport Technologies - Is South and southern Africa ready?”, SATC 2019 is not to be missed for anyone with an interest in road, rail, sea or air Transport.
