The Lagos State Government’s vision of transforming the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA) into a multifuel transport agency has gained momentum following the second meeting of the Steering Committee on Biogas Production in Lagos.

At this strategic session, the project consultants — CPCS Transcom and Renetech Renewable Energy Technologies — provided an update on key findings and outlined opportunities for attracting investors ahead of full implementation, planned for 2029.
The journey towards this fuel initiative began on 4 November 2024, with the inaugural meeting of the steering committee. The latest meeting, organised by LAMATA, brought together senior officials from the Lagos State Government to coordinate efforts and promote the biogas programme.
Among the notable attendees were the Commissioner for Transportation, Mr Oluwaseun Osiyemi; his counterpart from the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, Mr Biodun Ogunleye; Special Adviser from the Office of Public-Private Partnerships, Mrs Bukola Odoe; Lagos State Chief Resilience Officer, Dr Folayinka Dania; and the Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Systems, represented by Mr Adeboye Akorede.
Members of the working group, drawn from various ministries, departments and agencies, were also in attendance. In addition, consultants from CPCS Transcom Limited and Renetech Renewable Energy Technologies delivered presentations highlighting their biogas expertise and offering Lagos a practical roadmap to meet its defined objectives.
This second steering committee meeting underscores Lagos State’s determination to diversify its energy sources and transition towards sustainable alternatives — laying the groundwork for a cleaner, more resilient energy future in public transport.
