The Nigerian Federal Government has reported steady progress on the Kaduna–Kano–Jigawa–Katsina–Maradi Railway Project.
Engr. Ali Bukar, Resident Engineer at the Federal Ministry of Transportation responsible for Section Two of the project, provided the update during a site visit in Jigawa by members of the Presidential Media Team, led by Sunday Dare, Special Adviser to the President on Media and Public Communication.
The inspection formed part of an ongoing visit to federal and state government projects in Nigeria’s North West, initiated by the Governor Hope Uzodimma-led Renewed Hope Ambassadors.
Bukar said the project had reached 60% completion across its two key corridors, with delivery expected by December 2027.
He said construction activity on the Kano–Dutse stretch had intensified, with major works currently focused on bridge construction across key waterways and challenging terrain.
Foundation works, including piling and substructure development for several bridges, are at advanced stages, while superstructure installation is ongoing at multiple locations.
Bukar said significant milestones had been achieved along the Kano–Jigawa section of the rail line, which spans approximately 104km, as well as on the branch line linking Kano to Dutse. Track laying, earthworks and structural components are in place along both alignments.
According to Bukar, the project is fully funded under President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Infrastructure funding scheme.
The team also inspected several projects undertaken by the Kano and Jigawa State Governments. These included the interchange flyover bridge at Tal-Udu in Gwale Local Government Area of Kano State, and the ongoing construction of a concrete waterline from Kapin Chiri Dam in Garko Local Government Area, Kano South Senatorial District, for irrigation farming.
In Dutse, the Jigawa State capital, the team also inspected the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Skills Acquisition Centre, as well as tractors acquired by the state government for agricultural purposes.
