CAMRAIL’s Enduring Commitment to Environmental Protection

In celebration of World Environment Day on June 5, CAMRAIL, a subsidiary of Africa Global Logistics, launched a series of activities across its national rail network. These initiatives were designed to raise public and media awareness of the company’s environmental stewardship, while encouraging NGOs and local communities to become active partners in promoting eco-conscious railway practices.

In Douala, CAMRAIL convened a high-level dialogue involving environmental experts, civil society actors, regional delegates from the Ministries of Environment and Mines, and members of both national and international press. The objective was to share CAMRAIL’s “green” strategy and sustainable development roadmap.

“CAMRAIL has adopted a comprehensive Environmental and Social Management Plan, which includes environmentally responsible practices. For example, our latest fleet of locomotives—certified UIC 624 Level 2—and our new tank wagons are specifically designed to reduce emissions of harmful substances,” — Joel Hounsinou, Managing Director of CAMRAIL.

As a classified establishment, CAMRAIL undergoes regular joint inspections by competent ministries to ensure compliance with regulatory standards governing its facilities and equipment.

Moreover, CAMRAIL has introduced an anti-pollution response mechanism featuring 15 pollution-absorbent kits, as well as a tank unloading package equipped with four mobile pumps and four flexible reservoirs, each with a 60,000-litre capacity.

“The establishment of a dedicated Environmental and Social Affairs Department, the hiring of a full-time Environmental Consultant, and investment in advanced pollution prevention tools demonstrate CAMRAIL’s unwavering commitment to environmental protection,” — Jean Bedim Nyamdi, Deputy Head of the Environmental and Social Department, CAMRAIL.
