Commercial Nominees PLC (CN) and the Ethiopian Railways Corporation (ERC) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to collaborate on third-party services, engineering, infrastructure development and business services. The agreement was signed on 18 August at the Radisson Blu Hotel in Addis Ababa.
Under the MoU, CN will provide ERC with property and asset management, manpower supply, training, onboard train services and compensation payment services. ERC will collaborate with CN on engineering and construction work ranging from design to construction, feasibility studies, capacity building, technical training and consultancy services. The two institutions will also work together to establish electric vehicle charging stations and provide EV maintenance services.
CN already provides ERC with security services and compensation payment services. CN Chief Executive Officer, Commander Tilahun Tsegaye, said ERC has been a long-standing customer of the company, and that the MoU would allow the two institutions to jointly utilise their resources and expertise.
“The agreement creates a significant opportunity for the two institutions to jointly engage in construction and consultancy services,” Tilahun said, noting that it aligns with CN's plan to expand into the real estate sector.
ERC Chief Executive Officer, Engineer Helina Belachew, said the agreement would strengthen the services Commercial Nominees has been providing to the Corporation and enable the two institutions to jointly explore new areas of business. She said the MoU was important for future collaboration between ERC and CN in construction and consultancy services.
