South Africa’s Department of Transport has published the approved 2025/26 rail access tariffs for the Transnet Rail Infrastructure Manager (TRIM), effective from 1 August 2026 until further notice. The tariffs use a two-part structure comprising a charge per train-kilometre and a charge per gross tonne-kilometre, with rates differentiated across iron ore, manganese, coal, intermodal, mineral exports, grain, tankers, general freight and passenger services.
The approved tariffs follow public consultation and will serve as the baseline for determining the 2026/27 rail access tariffs, which remain under development and will be submitted to the Minister of Transport for approval once the process is completed.
