Gabon and DRC Discuss Transport and Infrastructure Cooperation

Gabon and the Democratic Republic of Congo have identified transport and infrastructure among the areas for deeper bilateral cooperation following talks between Presidents Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema and Félix-Antoine Tshisekedi Tshilombo in Libreville.

The discussions covered agriculture, infrastructure, transport, energy, mining, health, education, vocational training, digital technology and culture, as the two countries considered opportunities to strengthen trade, industrialisation and regional integration.

The two Presidents also emphasised the need to increase local processing of natural resources and develop trade between African countries, linking this to broader efforts to create more value from domestic production.

Three bilateral agreements were signed during the visit. These covered cooperation in several sectors including judicial, environmental, health and mining matters; visa exemptions for holders of diplomatic and service passports; and regular diplomatic and political consultations.

A joint commission is to be established to monitor implementation of the agreements.

No specific railway project, transport corridor, rail investment or transport-sector agreement was announced as part of the visit.
