SNIM Maintains Operational Trajectory Despite Challenging Market Conditions

SNIM has maintained its operational trajectory despite a difficult context marked by lower iron ore prices and rising input costs.

The Board of Directors of the Société Nationale Industrielle et Minière, SNIM, met in ordinary session in Nouakchott on 28 April 2026 to review the company’s results for the 2025 financial year. The Board noted the strength of SNIM’s operational performance, supported by sustained levels across the company’s main indicators.

In 2025, SNIM recorded 130.2 million tonnes of earthworks, 14.7 million tonnes in sales and 14.7 million tonnes transported by rail. According to the company, these figures confirm the growth of its capacity in line with the progress of its strategic programme.

Turnover stood at 46,639 million MRU, up 2%, driven by the increase in volumes sold. Net profit reached 8,031 million MRU, down 24% compared with 2024, due to the combined effect of lower iron ore prices and higher raw material costs.

The Board also noted the maintenance of a significant investment level, at 7,720 million MRU, as well as control of financial balances, reflected in the reduction of debt.

Several major advances were recorded during the year. These included the inauguration of the 30 MW thermal power plant and 12 MW solar power plant in Zouerate, as well as the achievement of ISO 45001 certification, strengthening the company’s occupational health and safety standards.

SNIM also strengthened its governance framework by linking internal audit to the Audit Committee under the Board of Directors, reinforcing its independence and capacity to operate across all activities of the SNIM Group.

The company also advanced strategic projects, including F’derick and the El Aouj and Atomai partnerships. SNIM now holds 92% of the El Aouj project, with the final investment decision and the launch of preliminary works planned for the second half of the current year.

The Board recognised the commitment of employees and adopted important measures in their favour, in acknowledgement of the efforts made throughout 2025, particularly in improving working conditions and the social environment.

It also highlighted the work of the SNIM Foundation, which continues to intervene in education, health, essential services and local development for communities in Tiris Zemmour, Adrar and Dakhlet-Nouadhibou.

SNIM also reaffirmed its central position in Mauritania’s national economy, contributing 10% of the state budget revenues, accounting for 6% of GDP and representing 27% of the country’s exports.

Building on these results, SNIM is continuing the implementation of its Corporate Strategic Programme, aimed at strengthening competitiveness and consolidating its transformation trajectory.
