Freight Train Derailment On The Goba Line

The Company Ports and Railways of Mozambique (CFM), recently confirmed the derailment of a freight train towing diesel (diesel) tanks, which occurred 10.02.2021, around 23h07m, along Km 75 + 200, within the territory of the Kingdom of Eswatini.

The accident resulted in the spillage of about 360,000 litres of diesel (corresponding to 8 tanks), over the Umbeluze River, on the side of that territory of the neighbouring country.

A Joint Inquiry, constituted by CFM and Eswatini Railways (ESR), will be established to determine the causes of the accident, as well as the exact damage resulting from the accident.

CFM has hired a company specialized in the treatment of spills in soil and water. CFM is making every effort to mitigate possible damage to the environment and human health.
