The start of feeder cable installation marks tangible progress on the traction power infrastructure required for Line 1 of the Abidjan Metro, moving the project further into systems installation ahead of future commissioning.
The arrival of five locomotives also strengthens Colas Rail Côte d’Ivoire’s operational resources in the country. Together, the developments point to continued investment in both project delivery and railway capability in Côte d’Ivoire.

Colas Rail Côte d’Ivoire advanced work on the traction power supply system for Line 1 of the Abidjan Metro during August 2026, while separately receiving five locomotives to strengthen its operational capabilities in the country.
On 24 August, the company’s catenary teams carried out the first installation of feeder cables along Track 2 of the Abidjan Metro.
Feeder cables form part of the railway’s electrical infrastructure and are installed in parallel with the overhead catenary system. They carry traction current from electrical substations to the catenary, which supplies power to trains operating on the line.
In a recent LinkedIn update, Colas Rail Côte d’Ivoire reported that the first operation covered 1km of feeder cable. The work was carried out under the supervision of Samuel Brousse, with a further phase of cable installation planned for September.
The work represents further progress in the installation of the electrical systems required ahead of the future commissioning of Line 1.
In a separate company update, Colas Rail Côte d’Ivoire reported that it had received five locomotives during August to strengthen its operational capabilities.
Two locomotives arrived on 2 August, followed by a further two on 5 August and the fifth on 12 August.
Their arrival involved road surveys, transport planning, heavy-lift handling and final unloading. The operation was coordinated by Colas Rail’s logistics and plant and equipment management teams in Abidjan, with support from its health, safety and environment function.
AGL was responsible for the delivery and unloading of the locomotives.
