In preparation for the operation of Algeria’s Eastern Mining Line, the Director General of the National Railway Transport Company, Mr Ajj Bouaouni, and the Director General of the National Railway Equipment and Supplies Company, Mr Mounir Abbassi, oversaw the signing of a strategic partnership agreement between the National Railway Transport Company (SNTF) and the National Railway Equipment and Supplies Company (FERROVIAL).
The signing ceremony took place on Thursday, 30 April 2026, at the headquarters of the General Directorate, in the presence of the Director General of Industry and Commercial Services at the Ministry of Industry, Mr Mohamed Mekati, along with a number of central directors and executives from both companies.
The agreement forms part of preparations for the optimal operation of this strategic line and is intended to strengthen SNTF’s logistics and freight transport capabilities, particularly in the transport of mining materials.
Under the agreement, FERROVIAL will supply 800 wagons dedicated to transporting phosphate of all types via the Eastern Mining Line. This will support the transport of up to 13.6 million tonnes annually.
The first batch is expected to be delivered from July 2026, with deliveries continuing until the full consignment is completed, in line with the planned launch of the Eastern Mining Line at the end of 2027.
The agreement also forms part of Algeria’s broader national efforts to strengthen integration between the railway transport and industrial sectors, supporting national economic development and the growth of local production.
