INDIA TO MANUFACTURE LOCOS

The current Indian Railways' fleet comprises some 5,400 diesel and 4,300 electric locomotives. About 600 new units are taken into service annually, manufactured at the plants in Varanasi and Chittranjan, but the rate of supply falls short of demand. Estimates put the requirements for new locomotives
