New TransNamib Board Inaugurated, Business Plan Launched

The Minister of Works & Transport, Hon. John Mutorwa together with his counterpart in the Ministry of Public Enterprises, Hon. Leon Jooste inaugurated the new Board of Non-Directors of TransNamib with effect on Thursday, 07 February 2019 and will serve for a term of three years. Non-executive directors are expected to carry out their fiduciary duties through corporate governance, setting out strategic objectives, establishing policies, oversee the strategic plan, approval of budgets, amongst others.

The new Board consist of Oscar Kaveru, Adv. Sigrid Tjijorokisa, Dr. Michael Ochorub, Josephine Shikongo, Vincent Mberema and Gaenor Michaels. Inaugurating the Board Hon. Mutorwa strongly emphasised on the respect for the rule of law, the Namibian Constitution, NDP 5, Harambee Prosperity Plan (HPP), Public Procurement Act, Public Private Partnership (PPP) Act, Transport Policy, Ste Finance Act, Companies Act, amongst others. On his part, Hon. Jooste emphasised on the issues of good governance and accountability.

 He further said that “Let’s start a new page”. This event also marks the launch of TransNamib’s new five year Integrated Strategic Business Plan (ISBP) which aims at positioning TransNamib as a profitable and sustainable company. 

TransNamib CEO, Johny Smith said that “today marks the beginning of a new era of TransNamib where we can collectively work together to advance strategic support to the Executive team of TransNamib to take this very important and strategic company forward. During the past year the Executive Leadership of the company have been focusing on building a new foundation which is built on trust, being a single solid team, thriving for performance, good governance,  same understanding and future looking lead strategy implementation at TransNamib.

The company is 25 years behind and therefore we have to make significant strides from an operational perspective to develop TransNamib. We cannot be distracted with operational matters which do not add value to the growth of the business while we are supposed to engage at strategic levels, since we have a mammoth task to achieve an average of 20% per annum for the next five years.”
