Operations on the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) line between Mombasa and Nairobi is set to improve the overall efficiency of freight transport within the Northern Corridor. Embakasi ICD, located within the Nairobi environs is a key component of the SGR project since the cargo transported on the SGR line will be offloaded at the facility for clearance by the importers or their agents. This way the ICD will play a key role in decongesting the Port of Mombasa, the Container Freight Stations (CFSs) and by extension Mombasa Road. It will handle 405,000 TEUs per annum.
