On 8 February, TransNamib said it was intensifying efforts to 're-open the main-line between Karasburg and Ariamsvlei, damaged by flash floods. Spokesperson Ailly Hangula-Paulino said a 16-wagon freight train was stranded. Train operations to and from South Africa had been suspended, she said and it is not expected that the line will re-open until some time after 14 February.
'The Seeheim-Lüderitz line between Schackalskuppe siding and Ausnek was also washed away.
