After commissioning the Accra-Tema railway in October 2010, Ghanaian President John Atta Mills broke ground to begin continuation works on the Tema Harbour station to Japan Motors rail line.
According to Ghana Railway Development Authority (GRDA) chairman Dan Markin, a memorandum of understanding has been signed and funding promised by foreign institutions for the planned Ecowas (Economic Community of West African States) line linking Aflao-Tema-Accra, Winneba, Cape Coast, Takoradi and Omaape.
