According to the International Railway Journal (IRJ), China Railway Construction Corporation (CRCC) has reportedly been awarded two contracts worth a total of $US 2.9 billion to build two lines in Libya. At present, there is no railway in the country.

Negotiations for upgrading the 250km Bong Mining Railway in Liberia are at an advanced stage. Ircon (the Indian Railway Construction Corporation), the preferred bidder, hopes to sign a contract worth some $US110 million before the end of June, according to managing director

More detail has emerged on the 13 January accident in Liberia, on the recently revived Bong Mines railway. A train travelling from the mine to Monrovia collided, 68km from the capital, with a makeshift wooden wagon known locally as a Make-away.
