Suspension of Shosholoza Meyl long-distance passenger train services by the Passenger Rail Agency of SA (Prasa) was blamed by executives on the alleged inability of Transnet to service and repair locomotives. During the period 11 June to 11 July, the 22 eight-coach trainsets allocated to Cape Town’s Southern Line operated an additional 68 weekday, 43 Saturday and 26 Sunday services .
