France has signed a financing protocol for a ?225 million loan to fund the rolling stock of the Casablanca tramway.
Initialled by Finance minister Salaheddine Mezouar and French state secretary for foreign trade Anne-Marie Idrac, the agreement includes a donation amounting to 42% of the loan which is destined for the rolling stock supply and maintenance.

IT company Telvent (Nasdaq:TLVT), has announced that it is to implement its Telvent SmartMobilityTM solution in the new light rail system that will connect the Moroccan cities of Rabat and Sale. Comprising 32 stations along its 18km extension, the line is scheduled to begin operating by 2011. The contract is valued at €2.3 million.

France’s Alstom has won a €120 million contract to build a tramway network in Casablanca, Morocco’s largest city.
In terms of the deal, which could be worth €190 million over 15 years including options and maintenance, the company will provide 74 Citadis trams to Casa Transports, the local public transport operator.

In 2007, France and Morocco signed a strategic partnership agreement to adapt the French TGV system. Alstom was nominated to supply rolling stock to Morocco and design, operate and maintain the proposed Tangier-Casablanca high-speed line. The first of a fleet of 20 Alstom 160km/h electric locomotives for Office National des Chemins de fer (ONCF – the national railway of Morocco) arrived recently in Casablanca. In November 2007, Office National des Chemins de fer (ONCF – the national railway of Morocco) signed an order with Alstom for 20 Prima II electric locomotives. Morocco and France have signed contracts worth 65 million dirhams ($US7.73 million) to build a high-speed railway linking Tangier with Casablanca, Mahgreb Arabe Presse reports. The government of Morocco has approved a 28km tram system for Casablanca. The proposed routes cover the area from north-east Casablanca starting at the Olympic stadium in Sidi Moumen, extending through Hay Mohamadi to the city centre.
