CANADA’S DESSAU TO BUILD ALGERIAN LINE

Canadian engineering firm Dessau has won a $38.8 million contract to conduct the preliminary and final design for the construction of a 170km double track between Algiers and Constantine in Algeria’s north-east. ALGERIAN CONTAINER ROUTE LAUNCHED

On 4 January, container transport by rail was launched between the Port of Algiers and the dry port of Rouiba, about 20km east of the capital. Algeria’s principal main-line is currently being electrified at 25kV 50Hz in terms of a national investment programme approved by the government in 2007. Sngle track sections are being doubled and substantially rebuilt in places. The existing signalling is based on absolute block working. ALGERIAN ELECTRIFICATION EVALUATION

CHINA TO BUILD IN ALGERIA

The Chinese civil engineering group CCECC has won three contracts worth €1.46 billion for new rail construction between Tissemlit and Boughzoul, Saida and Tiaret; and between M’Sila and Boughzoul in western Algeria.
