The second phase of the Dar es Salaam-Isaka-Kigali/Keza-Musongati Railway project study will cover the existing 970km Dar es Salaam-Isaka railway link and its extensions. Rwanda infrastructure minister Linda Bihire has dispelled recent reports suggesting that she sees the current Tanzanian railway concession as a possible obstacle to plans for a new line from Dar-es-Salaam to Rwanda and Burundi. Rwanda Infrastructure minister Linda Bihire has told Tanzania that its railway concession agreement with Rail India Technical and Economic Services Ltd (Rites) will have to be “revised”, suggesting that it stands in the way of the proposed new standard gauge line from Dar-es-Salaam via Isaka to Rwanda and Burundi.
