GAUTRAIN PASSENGER STATS

According to an interview with Gautrain’s Dr Barbara Jensen published in New Age, an average of about 3,000 passengers are travelling to and from the newly opened Park station in Johannesburg every weekday. Each four-coach train accommodates 321 people seated and a further 138 standing. The paper speculates that the return fare of R98 may be deterring prospective users. The figure of 3,000 is a long way below the numbers foreseen in the planning stage.
