NEW CHABAHAR –ZAHEDAN LINE IN IRAN

President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has left Tehran for the port city of Chabahar in Sistan-Balouchestan province, south-eastern Iran, to inaugurate construction on a new rail project.

The 1,350km line is to link Chabahar to the provincial capital city of Zahedan, serving the cities of Iranshahr and Khash. Eventually it is to extend to the holy city of Mashahad in the north-eastern province of Razavi Khorasan. The project will help develop eastern Iran and also facilitate rail connection to neighbouring states.
