BOTHAVILLE BIOFUEL ON TRACK

Negotiations with Spoornet and Sedibeng Water have already been completed in connection with the Bothaville biofuel production project, the SABC reports. Managing director of Ethanol Africa Joe Kruger says everything is on schedule for completion by
September 2008. Sterling Waterford, an environmental finance group listed on the JSE, is actively involved with the financing and there are enough funds available to finish the scheme. Phase one has been completed and the next step is to acquire material. Unfortunately, there is heavy worldwide demand for this, due to what Kruger terms an “explosion” in the construction of ethanol plants in the US which has impacted on vendors around the world. “Certain key pieces of equipment need to be ordered from exactly the same vendors, whether you are in SA or the US,” Kruger was quoted saying. Regarding criticism in the media suggesting that the ethanol process consumes more fuel than it can produce, Kruger says the suggestion is “unfounded.”
