GAUTRAIN FARES ANNOUNCED

Posted on 01 June 2010

A one-way trip on Gautrain from Sandton to the airport will set you back R100 – plus another R10 if you haven’t already bought your R10 “smartcard”, which is the only ticket accepted. The fare was announced officially on 26 May. A single train trip is to cost R16.50 from Sandton to Marlboro; R21 from Sandton to Rhodesfield; and R18.50 from Marlboro to Rhodesfield. If a single trip on a feeder bus to or from any of these stations is undertaken, an additional R6 applies. Parking up to 24 hours at any of these stations adds another R9.50, but “substantially more” if one parks but does not use the train.

The Gautrain management agency and Bombela concession company announced the prices in a joint statement which says: “This fare policy is aimed at making the Gautrain attractive and affordable to broad sectors of the population without competing with existing modes of public transport.” The fares have been set to be “typically lower” than using a private vehicle for the same journey, but more expensive than using existing minibus taxis, Metrobus or Metrorail.

Initial fare estimates were made in 2002 by the Gauteng provincial government and incorporated into the Gautrain Concession Agreement signed in 2006. These fares have now been adjusted to account for inflation and to ensure that the original fare policy is maintained.

has the fare between OR tambo and pretoria been established yet.

The prices from Sandton to the airport are to high.
With the current prices the oversees client can afford
the prices, but the Gautrain will not be a affordable
    option for the local public.

i’m sure the Sandton workers will use the train within the
first month, but the nikky will wear of within that month.

The public within the top salary scale will use the train, but these
are only about 5% of thr broad public.

if Gautrain management want the link .. to be use successfully the prices
will have to drop to R50-60 per day for a round trip.

i’m sure the fat cats will get bigger but the overall management will fail
within the first year ,if the broaded public is not served.

the public will then use the tollroad system instead, even if the time
spending in a vechile is more.
