TRANSNET FREIGHT RAIL DERAILMENTS

Posted on 12 April 2010

Acting Transnet CEO Chris Wells told a press briefing in Johannesburg that there was an overall reduction in the number of derailments in the 2009/10 financial year compared to the previous year. However, he said, “more can be done.” He added: “I will only relax when there isn’t one derailment.”

While the 2009/10 financial year had seen achievements, Wells said, there were also certain areas Transnet had to improve as they were not at world class standards.
