DUBAI METRO

Posted on 25 April 2010

The opening dates of Dubai Metro stations on the Red Line have been revised. Seven more stations are to open on 30 April. These are Emirates, Airport Terminal 1, Al Karama, Emirates Towers, Dubai Internet City, Marina and Ibn Battuta.
The stations at GGICO (in Al Garhoud) and the World Trade Centre, which were to have been opened in April, have had their inaugural dates set back to 15 May.

To work in with the opening of the new stations, the number of trains will be increased from the existing 12 to 24. The Red Line will have at least 44 trains by the end of 2010, when all 29 stations will be in use.

At least 28 new feeder buses are being deployed to link the new stations with the surrounding areas.

The Metro has carried 13.68 million people since its launch on 9 September 2009 and is carrying an average of 80,000 passengers every day. A total of 35 million passengers is expected by the end of 2010.
