Posted on 14 March 2010

The installation of positive train control (PTC) on all USA intercity and commuter rail lines is mandated by the end of 2015 in terms of the 2008 Railway Safety Improvement Act. A New York Metropolitan Transportation Authority (NYMTA) official is quoted saying that it will cost $700 million to equip its Long Island and Metro North Railroads, but added that “comparatively low additional benefit” will accrue since the existing systems have “a high degree of safety.”
