ORE LINE: REVERSE OSMOSIS PLANT AT SALDANHA.

Posted on 05 February 2010 by Railways Africa Editor

Transnet group executive on capital projects Moira Moses told Parliament’s communications portfolio committee on 3 February that the parastatal is waiting for approval to build a reverse osmosis plant at Saldanha. This would convert sea water for use in dust control as part of its expanded iron ore rail line. “We have been waiting for 15 months for the issuing of this approval,” Sapa quoted her saying. “We estimate there has been R60 million impact on that project alone.” Should a serious drought occur, then “a lot of work” already done to reduce environmental impact in Saldanha “will be for naught”.
