Alstom and Construcciones y Auxiliar de Ferrocarriles SA (CAF) have secured a joint $US227.7 million contract with Spain’s Catalan Railways (FGC) to supply 24 suburban trains. Alstom, whose share of the deal is $113.9 million, will supply 12 sets, to be manufactured at its Santa Perpetua plant in Barcelona. The agreement includes an option for 20 additional trains. The four-coach electric-multiple-unit (emu) sets, accommodating a total of 800 passengers, are to be used on a 45km line linking Barcelona and Vallés in Catalonia.
