VIRGINIA SWITCHES FROM AMTRAK TO FRENCH KEOILIS

Posted on 01 November 2009

Management of commuter trains running into Washington DC provided by Virginia Railway Express (VRE) is to be switched from Amtrak to Keolis Rail Services America, an offshoot of the company that runs France’s railways. Keolis was the lowest bidder, quoting prices lower than the existing contract of around $19.6 million per year, according to VRE spokesman Mark Roeber, quoted by the Washington Post. The first year is to cost VRE $18.5 million in the first year, then $16.8 million in subsequent years.
